Introduction
The story of these stories

The stories of our adventures began shortly after we moved to Switzerland. I wanted to recount to our friends and family our new experiences and I started sending out a series of email newsletters; which I decided to title "Adventure 6", "Adventure 7", etceteras after the 5^th or 6^th email. I suppose that, in a way, they could be called chronicles because they are part travelogue, part newsletter, and part "the philosophy of life" according to Charlie.

To me each day holds the promise of discovering something new; sometimes uplifting other times soul searching. When William was 2 or 3 he had a shirt that proudly proclaimed, "Step by step, I discover my world". I like to think that I am not too old to discover my world.

Certainly we had many adventures before coming to Europe. We lived in many places together and a few more places separately before we, became us. Together we have lived in Florida, Colorado, Washington state, Virginia, Guam and Switzerland; separately we have lived in Ohio, Pennsylvania, California, and Texas. Each of these places has its own set of stories to be recounted another time and perhaps in another place.

Since the middle of 1999, when we first knew that we where moving to Switzerland, I have written these stories chronicling our experiences. Much has happened in that period of time. From the trials of moving and getting settled in a new place, especially a foreign one, to becoming parents after twenty years of being, "just the two of us". Along this journey we have made trips to Austria, Belgium, England, France, Germany, Holland, Italy, and Spain. And we have faced many new challenges both professionally and personally.

So these pages contain the ongoing story of our adventures in Switzerland and Europe starting with our move to Switzerland. I have reworded parts of the original emails so that the story flows more smoothly but have tried not to edit out content. The value of using the web is that I can add pictures to our stories and perhaps add details that I left out of the originals.
